This is why hospitals in Lancashire will get a share of millions in new Government scheme to cut energy bills

Hospitals in Lancashire will soon get help to slash their energy bills - thanks to a multi-million pound Government scheme.

Fourteen NHS Trusts will receive a total of £11.1 million to adopt clean energy technologies and improve their energy efficiency – helping them to bring down their bills and creating savings that can be reinvested into local frontline services.

Hospitals to benefit include the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, which will receive £766,000 to make its buildings cleaner and cheaper to run with energy efficiency upgrades, and the Harbour, a mental health hospital in Blackpool, which will receive £590,000 to install new battery technology.

The funding is part of £74 million worth of government support for public buildings across the country to generate their own electricity and save tens of millions on their bills.

Minister for Energy Consumers Martin McCluskey said: “More money will go straight to the north-west’s frontline services as hospitals benefit from cheaper bills and cutting-edge green technology. This is our clean power mission in action – cutting bills, investing in public services and providing energy security for our country.”

Health and Social Care Secretary Wes Streeting said: “With lower bills for hospitals, better value for money, and a cleaner, more efficient NHS, everybody wins. Every penny of these savings will be redirected straight back into frontline care and delivering an NHS patients, staff and the whole country can be proud of again. “This investment will help us build an NHS fit for the future.”
