This is what's planned for the much-missed Brinscall Post Office site

The Post Office closed at the end of December.

A recently-closed village Post Office could be transformed under new plans.

Mr Manni Singh has applied to Chorley Borough Council for permission to change 50 - 54 School Lane, Brinscall (formerly a Post Office), to a shop across the ground floor and two residential apartments across the first floor.

Plans submitted show the apartments would both have one bedroom, and would be accessed from existing side door entrance.

Background

The Post Office unexpectedly closed on December 30, 2025, following the resignation of the postmaster. The Post Office said it was not looking to replace Brinscall Post Office, after undertaking a comprehensive review, looking customer demand and accessibility of Post Office services.

In February, Chorley councillor Jenny Whiffen launched a petition calling for a temporary/mobile outreach service after nearby Wheelton’s pop-up service was also temporarily shut down. She said: “Currently, the elderly and those without access to personal transportation are forced to travel miles to reach the nearest available post offices in Whittle-le-Woods or on Eaves Lane, Chorley. Many make these journeys on foot or rely on infrequent and often unreliable bus services. This is not only unfair but unsafe for those who are vulnerable and at risk.”

A decision on the latest planning application will be made in coming weeks by Chorley Borough Council.
