Self-build scheme would transform Garstang builders' yard into new homes
Plans to turn a builders' yard in Garstang into a small self-build housing scheme have been submitted to Wyre Council.
A planning application has been submitted which could see a former builders' yard in Garstang transformed into a small development of owner-designed homes.
Self-build specialist LivedIn has lodged a Permission in Principle application with Wyre Borough Council seeking approval for between four and seven self-build dwellings on land west of Cockerham Road.
The 0.45-hectare site currently operates as a builders' yard and lies within Garstang's settlement boundary on land allocated for housing in the council's Local Plan.

If Permission in Principle is granted, a further Technical Details Consent application would be required before construction could begin. Matters including design, layout, access, landscaping and materials would be considered at that stage.
LivedIn says the proposal would help address demand for self-build opportunities in the borough.
According to the company, Wyre Council's self-build register contains 29 entries across 10 base periods, while only five compliant permissions have been granted.

The developer argues this leaves a shortfall of 24 plots and says the council has failed to meet its statutory duties under self-build legislation. The claim forms part of the planning statement submitted in support of the application.
Tom Howard, director of LivedIn, said: "Garstang is a town with a lot going for it – real services, real character and a strong sense of place. What we're offering is a small number of people the chance to put down roots here on their own terms."
Community lead May Fisher said self-build mortgage products had made the process more accessible, with funding released in stages as construction progresses.
The company says homes built by their future owners are often designed to higher energy-efficiency standards and make greater use of local contractors and suppliers.
