Run free old friend - Lancs Police issue sad update on furry colleague Zorro who helped locate a missing man
They announced the sad news on their Facebook earlier today.
Lancashire Police have announced the sad death of one of their former furry colleagues and friend.

Retired black German Shepherd dog RPD Zorro crossed over the rainbow bridge.

The much loved colleague was pivotal in locating a vulnerable missing man.
Announcing the news on their socials, a spokesperson for the Retired Lancashire Police K9s said: “It is with great sadness that we share the news that RPD Zorro has crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
“Zorro was a striking black German Shepherd, born in the Czech Republic before joining Lancashire Police in 2018.
“During his three years of service as a General-Purpose Police Dog, he proved himself to be a highly capable and reliable partner, helping to apprehend offenders and supporting officers in a variety of operational situations.
“One of Zorro’s most memorable achievements was tracking and locating a vulnerable missing man, an action that earned him a well-deserved commendation.”
He was described as a dog who made a real difference and left a lasting impact on those who worked alongside him.

Sadly, injury brought Zorro’s policing career to an early end, but retirement brought a new chapter.
He was given a wonderful home by Jackie and Mark, who patiently helped him make the transition from police dog to beloved family pet.
The spokesperson added: “Although it took him some time to adjust, he eventually embraced retirement, enjoying life alongside other dogs, chickens and the freedom to simply be a dog.
“His handler shared these heartfelt words: “My first police dog who gave me memories and moments I’ll never forget.
“I am immensely proud to have been his handler and hold the lead whilst he did the rest.”
“Thank you, Jackie and Mark, for giving Zorro the retirement every retired police dog deserves. Rest easy, Zorro.
“Thank you for your service, your loyalty and the memories you leave behind.
“Run free, old friend.”
