Rosemere Cancer Foundation Cross Bay Walk raises more than £20,000
The Rosemere Cancer Foundation Cross Bay Walk has successfully raised over £20,000, contributing to local cancer patient support.
The annual Rosemere Cancer Foundation Cross Bay Walk looks set to have raised more than £20,000 for projects supporting local cancer patients.
The event sold out three times in the run-up to the walk, with the charity having to make repeated requests for extra places because of the high demand.
In total, around 335 walkers of all ages, accompanied by a wide variety of dogs, set off from Arnside Pier at 4pm to cross the sands to Kents Bank.
The group was led safely across Morecambe Bay by King’s Guide to the Sands Michael Wilson.
Rosemere fundraising assistant Hannah Leahy, who helped register the walkers, said: “When we were first given the date and time slot for this year’s walk, we weren’t sure how popular it would be because of its late afternoon start.
“To have had to request extra places more than once and achieve such a good turnout and donation is just fantastic.
“Our thanks go to everyone who joined us in crossing the bay. We are especially grateful to Michael for leading us safely over the sands and through the River Kent, which was adult knee-deep in places, and to our walk sponsor, Leyland Beds & Furniture.”
Rosemere Cancer Foundation supports cancer patients from across Lancashire and South Cumbria who are treated at Rosemere Cancer Centre at Royal Preston Hospital and eight other hospital cancer units across the two counties.
The charity funds equipment, clinical research, staff training and services that are not otherwise funded by the NHS, with the aim of making patients’ cancer treatment more effective, comfortable and less stressful.
