Preston's Tram Bridge rebuild named North West 'Project of the Year'
“As a Preston-based business, it is particularly special to have played a part in restoring such an important local landmark”.
Preston’s newly-rebuilt Tram Bridge has been named as the North West’s Project of the Year at a glittering ceremony.
Eric Wright Civil Engineering, which was tasked with the £8m project, was recognised for the work at the 2026 Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) North West Awards, held at The Midland Hotel, Manchester.
Commissioned by Preston City Council, with funding support and technical expertise provided by Lancashire County Council, the new crossing has reinstated a vital route for pedestrians and cyclists, linking Preston and South Ribble and enhancing connectivity between communities, supporting sustainable travel choices and contributing to the wider Active Travel Preston initiative.
The award recognises not only the technical excellence demonstrated throughout the project, but also the collaborative approach adopted by the project team, client and stakeholders to deliver a scheme of lasting value to the local community.

Gavin Hulme, Managing Director of Eric Wright Civil Engineering, said: “We are incredibly proud that the Preston Tram Bridge project has been recognised with this award. It has been a technically challenging and rewarding scheme for our team, and one that carries real significance for the local community.
“As a Preston-based business, it is particularly special to have played a part in restoring such an important local landmark. This recognition is a testament to the dedication, expertise and collaborative approach of everyone involved in the project, from our own teams through to our client and delivery partners.”
The CECA North West Awards recognise outstanding achievements across the civil engineering sector, celebrating projects, organisations and individuals that demonstrate exceptional engineering excellence, innovation, collaboration and positive social impact across the region.
