Coun Davies, who had represented the Preston Rural East ward since 2008, was a Conservative and an Armed Forces veteran.

He was involved with several military associations, including the Preston branch of the Scots Guards Association, and was secretary, treasurer, and former chairman of the Preston and District Veterans Council.

Steve Hills from the veterans council said it was with the ‘deepest of sorrow’ that he had to let members know of Coun Davies’ death earlier today.

In a statement, he said: “Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.

“There are no further details at this moment. RIP.”
