Police cordon off part of busy Preston street after serious assault

Officers taped off the pavement area near to the junction with Surrey Street while investigations continued into an incident earlier in the day.

According to locals a man is said to have suffered a serious leg injury during a fight.

Police have so far not revealed details of what happened. But a spokesman told the Post: "There was an altercation in New Hall Lane this morning which has resulted in an investigation at the scene.

"We expect to release more information later."
