Kenny contacts pigeon breeders all over the country who donate the birds. Details of the auction and pedigree of the birds are then advertised in the British Homing World and the bids are placed by phone.

Kenny and Helen first started to support the charity five years ago and they have raised more than £52,000.

Kenny said: “It gets very hectic around the close of the auction with the phones ringing non-stop but it is exciting and, with the generosity of the pigeon breeders all over the country, we are delighted that we have been able to raise significant funds for Rainbow House which is such a worthy cause.

“I wish to thank our friends, Dave Atkins, from Lincoln, and Gary McCauley, from Newcastle, who helped to take the calls and monitor the bids.

Carole Cochrane, CEO at Rainbow House, in Mawdesley, said: “Kenny and Helen are great supporters of Rainbow House and their time and efforts are very much appreciated.

“Over the years they have raised a fantastic amount and we cannot thank them enough.

“I never realised how much work went into these auctions – it has certainly opened my eyes about racing pigeons.”
