The shop has been located in Penwortham for over 45 years.

A cherished, longstanding Preston shop has received tremendous support after announcing it is set to close.

Broadgate Cycle Stores has cemented itself a major part of the Penwortham community, providing many residents’ first ever bikes.

The business is run by partners David Butcher and David Wilson, with founding partner Thomas Butcher sadly passing away in 2024. Alex Wilson manages the store, with the team priding itself on providing brilliant and personal service.

Last month, David Butcher confirmed that the business is set to close. He said the beloved cycling hub will likely shut within the next two months, adding that Broadgate Cycles “has been a part of Penwortham for over 45 years” and “we’ve loved every minute, especially our customers”.

Following the announcement, support poured in for the shop, with readers sharing their stories with the Lancashire Post. But, the support has gone beyond sharing kind words and special memories with David noting that Broadgate Cycles has been ‘extremely busy’ with customers.

An exact closing date has not yet been confirmed.
