Organised by charity The Running Bee Foundation, the event takes place from 9.30am to 11.30am on Sunday through the streets and parks of Preston.

More than 1,000 people are expected to take part, including Coun Neil Darby, who is taking his place on the startline as the city’s first citizen.

Having previously run the Manchester Marathon and having regained a love for running during lockdown, Coun Darby decided that the Preston 10k would be the perfect event to tackle in 2022.

He said: “The fact that it’s got Preston in the title right there, City of Preston 10k, really means a lot to people and it’s that feeling of family that can be found throughout Preston.

“I’ve lived here for basically my whole adult life, I grew up elsewhere but one of the reasons I ended up staying in Preston is just how friendly the people are.

“There’s a real sense of pride in the city.”
