Ian McKellen forced to deny visit to war-torn Ukraine after miscaptioned picture appears on social media
World-famous actor Sir Ian McKellen has had to take to social media to deny that he recently went on a trip to war-torn Ukraine.
The 82-year-old who was born in Burnley and raised in Wigan, was responding to a miscaptioned selfie which someone had posted saying it was Sir Ian with a fan in Lviv.
In fact the picture had been taken in London six months ago.
Sir Ian wrote on Twitter: “Despite reports and supposed photographs circulating online, I have not visited Lviv or elsewhere in Ukraine.”
