Awards night held for Preston's budding Lando Norrises who also raised thousands for local charity

The first ever awards night has been held for the Preston youngsters tipped to be future Lando Norrises.

Instructors from TeamSport E Karting in Preston recently hosted an awards night for their Race Academy’s standout young drivers.

As well as celebrating the racing stars of tomorrow, TeamSport Preston also took the evening as an excuse to raise funds for the Rosemere Cancer Foundation.

Chief Instructor and Duty Manager Declan Worden took to the winners’ platform alongside fellow instructors Liam, Josh and Dylan to present the charity with a £3,253.08 donation.

How were funds raised?

The Preston team raised the funds at the awards night by:

  • auctioning racing gear donated by TeamSport
  • selling ‘plant pot’ tyres they had made from old kart tyres and bits of wood from the track surface
  • taking part in a freezing outdoor “Soak the Instructor Challenge”
  • organising mini games in the bar area and a special race session that meant TeamSport’s young drivers could race against their parents, siblings and friends.

And which awards were given out?

Among the TeamSport drivers to receive awards were Katlin for most improved cadet; Liam for most improved junior; Jack, who received the Junior Race League champion award; and Harry L, who won the cadet equivalent.

The Race Academy’s cadet rising star award went to Harry S, who made it through to the British Indoor Karting Championship National Finals, while the junior rising star award was presented to Dayner for his sportsmanship and development as a driver both on and off the track.
