New worry over Farington estate plan

Sterling Properties have entered detailed plans for land to the west of Grasmere Avenue after outline permission was granted on March 11, 2013. But critics argue that much has changed in the area in this time, and the development is no longer suitable.
Farington East Coun Paul Wharton said: “The highways survey was conducted many years ago before the new estate around Parish Gardens and Albion Gate were started- now there are hundreds more cars.”

He also raised concerns about speeding on Wheelton Lane, and fears drains may collapse under pressure.
In the Design and Access statement, the developer insists it is a sustainable location, close to schools and amenities.
It reads: “The application site is particularly sustainable in terms of location, public transport, local amenities and accessibility.”
Adding: “The local road network has sufficient capacity to accommodate the additional traffic that these proposals will create.”
