A Garstang teenager is currently involved in a voluntary teaching role in South America as part of his gap year before going to university.

Emilio Fallon, 19, son of Alastair and Claudia Fallon, has been at the Santa Maria Education centre in Santa María de Fe, Misiones, Paraguay, for the past two months.

He raised most of the money to pay for his trip by working at Garstang Pharmacy for six months, as well as getting help from friends via an online fundraising platform.

After his stint at the education centre is complete, he will be travelling north to Colombia, former home of his now Garstang-based and UK naturalised grandmother, Graciela Lemos.

Emilio, an ex-pupil of SS Mary and Michael Catholic Primary School, Bonds, Garstang Academy and Blackpool Sixth Form, will be meeting up with relatives in Colombia before returning home this summer, where he plans to study International Relations with Spanish at Manchester Metropolitan University.
