More M6 misery after two smashes block lanes

Drivers on the M6 had to endure yet more motorway misery after two separate collisions brought delays around morning rush hour.

Three lanes were closed for a while after a smash which left a badly damaged car facing the wrong way in the middle lane of the southbound carriageway near junction 31A at Preston.

And before the motorway could be cleared, traffic travelling northbound was held up at the junction with the M55 due to a collision.

Emergency services worked quickly to remove damaged vehicles to the hard shoulder and get traffic folowing agin. But with long queues in both directions, hundreds of commuters were delayed on their journey to work.

There were not thought to be any serious injuries in either smash.

The collisions were the latest in a series of incidents to bring misery to the M6 in Lancashire over the past few weeks.
