Police said the body of Grahame Tarrant, from Chorley, was found in a lake off Burgh Wood Way, Chorley, at 3.20pm on Saturday (August 22).

The 59-year-old had been reported missing from his home on the nearby Gillibrand estate on Thursday (August 20) and he had not been seen or heard from since.

Around a dozen emergency service vehicles, including police, fire crews and paramedics, rushed to the scene near Gillibrand bypass after the tragic discovery on Saturday afternoon.

The body was recovered from the water and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A police spokesman said: "A body has sadly been found in the search for a missing man.

"Police were called by a member of the public following the discovery of the body in water off Burch Wood Way, Chorley, at 3.20pm on Saturday (August 22).

"Police and paramedics attended but the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"Although no formal identification has taken place, the deceased man is believed to be 59-year-old Grahame Tarrant, from Chorley, who was reported missing from home on Thursday.

"Mr Tarrant’s family have been made aware of the development and are being supported by specially-trained officers at this time.

"Mr Tarrant’s death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner’s office in due course."
