Police were called after a man climbed onto the roof of a building and refused to come down at around 5.20pm on Tuesday (August 16).

A cordon was put in place around Bistrot Pierre and Fishergate as negotiations took place, with residents urged to stay away from the scene.

Eyewitnesses also reported seeing a police helicopter circling the area as officers attempted to bring the man down safely.

Overnight, Lancashire Police confirmed the man fell from the roof and was provided “immediate medical treatment” by officers at the scene.

The man was later hospitalised, with police describing his condition as “stable” on Wednesday (August 17).

"We have referred the incident to the IOPC (Independent Office for Police Conduct),” a spokesman for the force said.

The scene that was in place has been removed.
