Major update as firefighters tackle city centre blaze at The Ruby takeaway in Ormskirk Road in Preston

Firefighters are tackling a fire in Preston City Centre.

The blaze broke out earlier today on the first floor of The Ruby Chinese Takeaway in Ormskirk Road.

The road is blocked off by emergency vehicles as firefighters damped down the flames. They have also used cutting equipment on roller shutters to gain access to the property which is currently closed.

Smoke can still be seen billowing from the first floor windows and roof although a spokesperson at the scene said it does appear fire crews have brought the blaze under control.

Two fire engines are there with an ambulance and police car, also at the scene.

More to follow.
