‘Henrietta’ was then taken to Medivet in Bamber Bridge to be checked over last Saturday and then released into the wild again.

A spokesperson for the vets said: “We had a couple of wildlife success stories at the weekend.

“Henrietta the hedgehog hoglet was brought into the practice on Saturday by a lovely member of the public as she was out in broad daylight walking around a carpark.

“After a thorough inspection, some tick removals, some fluids and food, she was then released back into the wild later on that evening, with a clean bill of health.”

Car parks located near parks or woodland often have perimeter shrubs or grassy verges where beetles, caterpillars, and slugs thrive, providing an easy meal for a foraging hedgehog.

The undersides of parked vehicles or piles of leaves in quieter corners of a car park can serve as temporary daytime hiding places.

If you find a hedgehog, assess the situation immediately. If it is injured, wobbly, out in the open during daylight, or surrounded by flies, it needs rescuing. Put on gardening gloves, scoop the hedgehog into a high-sided cardboard box lined with a towel or newspaper, and take it to a local vet or wildlife rescue.
