Preston Vets share heartbreaking appeal after 'sweet and gentle' spaniel found in tragic condition

“She is gentle, affectionate, and full of trust. This lovely girl truly deserves a second chance to live a happy, pain-free life...”

A ‘sweet and gentle’ Cavalier King Charles Spaniel has been found abandoned in a tragic condition on the streets of Preston.

She was picked up by the RSPCA after being found as a stray in Watling Street Road on Monday, and has since been surrendered into the care of Preston Vets, a small independent practice in Langcliffe Road, Ribbleton.

They said she is microchipped and efforts have been made to contact the registered owner, but sadly, they have had no response. The registered address also appears to be incorrect, suggesting that the microchip details have not been kept up to date.

Preston Vets said she arrived in a ‘very poor condition’, suffering from a number of ‘significant health issues’, and is due to undergo surgery today (Wednesday, July 22) to remove her damaged left eye.

She currently weighs just 8 kg, and they estimate that she is between 4 and 6 years old. Preston Vets have launched a GoFundMe to help cover her treatment and “give this lovely girl the second chance she truly deserves.”

“Gentle, affectionate and full of trust”

Speaking to the Post, they said: “Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, no one has come forward to claim her.

“We have carried out a full veterinary examination and discovered that her left eye is so severely damaged that it needs to be surgically removed. This procedure is essential to relieve her pain and prevent further complications.

“Further assessment also revealed that she is suffering from a painful ear infection, and her ears were heavily soiled.

“In addition, she requires blood tests, further diagnostic investigations, medication, pain relief, and ongoing veterinary care to help her recover and regain her health.

“Despite everything she has been through, she remains gentle, affectionate, and full of trust. She truly deserves the chance to live a happy, pain-free life.

“We are committed to giving her the treatment she deserves, but we can’t do it alone. As a small independent veterinary practice, we are kindly asking for your support.”

How you can help

Preston Vets added: “We’ve started a GoFundMe page to help cover the cost of her treatment. Every donation, no matter how small, will go directly towards her treatment and recovery.

“If you’re unable to donate, simply sharing her story with your friends and family would mean just as much. Every share helps us reach more people who may be able to support her journey to recovery.

“Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and for believing that every animal deserves a second chance. With your help, we can give this lovely girl the happy, healthy future she deserves.”
