This hip-hop artist says writing lyrics cured his depression
A hip-hop artist says putting pen to paper helped him overcome depression.
And with Mental Health Awareness Week underway, Garstang rapper Dominic Bridson says he wants to reach out to others suffering in the way he did.
The 20-year-old started rapping at the age of 15 under the name ‘WizDom’ and is now looking at setting up workshops to guide others having a difficult time.
Dominic, a heating engineer, said: “My friends were all doing it so I started too.
“By writing lyrics it helped me get things off my chest and I started releasing songs on YouTube.
“Now I want to set something up where young people can come in and I can see if music can do the same thing for them.
“A lot of the stuff I rap about is very personal and it’s a good way to get things out.”
Dominic, who also works as a groundsman, grew up in Blackburn and says being a rap artist in Garstang isn’t easy.
His boss as a heating engineer is also his music manager and Dominic made his big break at a Blackburn rap battle in 2013.
Since then he has performed up and down the country.
He said: “Getting heard in Garstang isn’t easy but I started to get lots of recognition for my videos.
“I believe I’m something people haven’t heard before.
“Now I’m looking to expand to festivals as well helping others.
“Anyone wanting to reach out can contact me on my Facebook ‘Dom WizDom Bridson’”
