Fire Service issue smoking warning as they attend a Preston bedroom fire last night

In the early hours of this morning (August 23), two Preston fire engines attended a bedroom fire on Turner Street in the city centre.

At 1:17am, firefighters were called to the property, where a person had fallen asleep whilst smoking, setting their mattress on fire.

All the occupants were safely out of the house by the time the engines arrived but two were treated for smoke inhalation.

A Preston Fire Station spokesperson said the incident was a reminder of the dangers of smoking in bed, particularly at night.

Crews were in attendance for one hour, with firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using one hose reel to extinguish the fire.
