Haslam Park bridge to remain closed for 'significant' repair works

The bridge at Preston's Haslam Park is to remain closed until further notice, as Preston Council carry out repairs on the bridge deck and railings.

The park, that sits alongside the Lancaster canal, is popular with families because of its children's play area and picnic area, but concerns over the safety of one of the bridges, that stretches over a small brook, have meant that Preston Council have had to temporarily close it for repair works.

Councillor Robert Boswell, Cabinet member for environment and community safety, said,

“The Haslam Park bridge deck and railings require significant repairs. Materials are on order and it is hoped the work will be completed and the bridge reopened within the next four weeks.”

The park, off Bristow Ave, Ashton-on-Ribble, features diverse pathways that have been popular throughout the lockdown, with visitors who enjoy walking, jogging, and cycling.

The council aims to have the bridge open for use again within the next four weeks.
