Emergency 999 line down on landline phones in Eccleston, Freckleton, Parbold, Longridge and Salmesbury

The 999 emergency number was reportedly not working on some landline phones in Eccleston, Freckleton, Parbold, Longridge and Salmesbury.

The service allegedly went down at around 9.45pm yesterday (September 5), meaning people without a mobile phone might not have been able to call 999 in the event of an emergency.

But it has now been confirmed the 999 service was restored at around 7pm today (September 6).

A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We’ve now been advised that the 999 service has been restored on all affected phone landlines.

"Apologies for any inconvenience."
