Lancs Roads Police posted a picture on Twitter of a car which overtook them on the M6 at Leyland travelling at 90mph.

Incredibly, the VW driver was also chatting on a mobile phone.

Police tweeted on Saturday night: "This car overtook HO40 on the M6 Leyland at over 90mph whilst the driver was using their mobile phone.

"When stopped it also transpired they weren't insured on their mate's traders policy as they thought.

"The irony was they dropped & smashed their phone during the stop."

One commentator on social media said: "Another one off the road! Good stop team!"

That same day Lancs Road Police had a bizarre encounter when a "mooning" car owner attracted their attention in Friargate, Preston.

The Ford car was stopped a short time later and the vehicle found to be unroadworthy.

Police tweeted: "If you are going to draw attention to yourself by showing your backside to members of the public through car window, please make sure your vehicle is in a roadworthy condition when you are inevitably stopped by police.

"Prohibited from use PG9."
