Key Unlocking Futures was named winner of Spring North’s Impact Award and also took the Not-for-Profit of the Year title at the organisation’s inaugural awards.

The Spring North Awards celebrate voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise organisations working across Lancashire and South Cumbria.

Key Unlocking Futures provides long-term support to help people move from crisis towards stability, including safe housing, counselling, practical help and community-based support.

Judges praised the charity’s trauma-informed approach and its work with people facing complex challenges.

As Not-for-Profit of the Year, the charity will receive a £2,500 grant to support its work, as well as a professionally produced video to help highlight its impact.

Martin Hartley-Smith, chief executive of Spring North, said: “The Spring North Awards were created to recognise the organisations and community groups making a real difference across Lancashire and South Cumbria.

“Key Unlocking Futures is a brilliant example of that work in action. Through its long-term, trauma-informed and joined-up approach, the organisation is helping people affected by homelessness, domestic abuse, poor health and complex life challenges to find safety, rebuild stability and feel connected to their communities again.

“Its work is improving lives, strengthening neighbourhoods and creating the relationships, confidence and opportunities that support better health and wellbeing long after an immediate crisis has passed.”

Ursula Patten, director of Key Unlocking Futures, said the charity was proud to receive the recognition.

She said: “Every day at Key, we witness the quiet courage of the people we support and the dedication of the team walking alongside them.

“But to be recognised externally with not one but two awards at the very first Spring North Awards is something truly special. It validates the hard work, the heart and the impact our people bring to this work every single day, and we couldn’t be prouder.”
