Major update: Dispersal order slapped on parts of Preston as police increase patrols following teenage arrests
Police have authorised a dispersal order in the New Hall Lane area of Preston until midnight tonight following teenage arrests.
Police used Stop and Search powers on Good Friday following reports of 30 young people armed with weapons and wearing face coverings. There were further reports of disorder and criminal damage in the area.
Eight males aged between 15 and 17 were arrested on suspicion of affray and woke up this morning in a police cell.
Lancashire Police said: “There will be a further significant police presence in the city tonight in order to keep you, the public safe, and to prevent any further disorder. They will be assisted by a granting of Section 34 powers under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.
“This gives our officers the power to disperse anyone to prevent people in the locality being harassed, alarmed, or distressed or the occurrence of crime and disorder. The powers are in place from now until midnight, and we have the ability to extend them beyond that period if necessary.”
