Two teenagers were attacked and robbed by four men carrying weapons as they got out of their car in Accrington.

A 19-year-old man got out of his vehicle in Birtwistle Street when he was immediately approached by a black saloon vehicle.

The victim and another 19-year-old passenger were then attacked and threatened by four men brandishing weapons.

Both victims had their mobile phones stolen by the attackers who then fled the scene in the black saloon car.

The incident occurred at around 11pm on Thursday, August 11.

Det Sgt Steve Craig, of East CID, said: “We have a dedicated team of officers assigned to this case and reassurance patrols have been increased in the area as a precaution.

“As part of our ongoing enquiries we would ask anyone with information or CCTV, dashcam, doorbell or mobile phone footage which could assist our investigation to get in contact.

“If you saw a dark coloured saloon in the area before or after 11pm we would be keen to hear from you.”

The attackers – believed to be in their 20s – were described as two black males, an Asian male with a beard and a white male.

Police confirmed no arrests had been made but one iPhone had been recovered and enquiries were ongoing to establish what happened.

Detectives also said they were treating it as an isolated incident and it was believed there was no wider threat to the community.
