£10,000 fine issued after 50 people attend Darwen 'house party'

The organiser of a "house party" in Darwen which attracted around 50 people has been slapped with a £10,000 fine.

Police were called to reports of a "significant house party" at a residential address in Naples Road in the early hours of this morning (Sunday, September 6).

Around 50 people were in attendance when officers arrived, as well as DJ equipment.

Officers have now confirmed they have issued the organiser of the gathering a £10,000 fixed penalty notice.

A spokesman for Lancashire Police: "During a busy weekend across the county, we have attended a number of reports of COVID regulation breaches at businesses and residential addresses.

"Lancashire remains in the midst of a pandemic and we will take action and enforce the regulations where necessary, to protect your health and the health of our communities."

8,534 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in the Lancashire County Council area, according to Public Health England figures released today (September 6).

Meanwhile, the total across Lancashire - including Blackpool and Blackburn - stands at 11,473.
