Preston man jailed after police chase

A motorist who led police on a dangerous pursuit has been jailed for 15 months and banned for four years and seven months.

Azer Iqbal, 37, of Tulketh Road, Preston, admits dangerous driving, failing to provide a specimen, and assaulting an emergency worker.

Preston Crown Court heard on August 7 at 6.30am police saw him ‘swaying’ in a Honda Civic, and he appeared to be struggling to stay awake at the wheel on Aqueduct Street.

They illuminated their blue lights when he flouted a red light, but when they reached him he reversed at speed, causing the officer to jump away.

He passed more red lights and almost crashed into other cars. Officers found the car on Powis Road with the bumper hanging off.

Iqbal was found in his house trying to hide the keys down the side of the sofa, and refused to provide a saliva specimen.
