A Preston mechanic and garage owner has been jailed after pleading guilty to a drunken hit and run on two sisters near his home in Cottam.

Skye, 18, and Lauren Deans, 20, were cycling along Tom Benson Way on May 25 when a speeding Jason Jeynes struck them at 10.36pm, after an evening drinking at the Ancient Oak pub in Merry Trees Lane.

The 40-year-old owner of Ashton Autos failed to stop and continued to drive his Volkswagen Amarok home to Hoyles Lane, where he was arrested by police later that night.
Officers knocked on his door at 12.35am and Jeynes was taken into custody and later charged with drink driving, failing to stop and dangerous driving.

The two sisters were taken to hospital with a number of nasty injuries - with Lauren having to undergo surgery to repair a snapped ligament in her arm.
Jeynes pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving, drink driving, failing to stop after a road accident and driving without due care and attention.

He also pleaded guilty to two counts of assault by beating and two counts of criminal damage (value over £5,000), with the damage caused to another vehicle that Jeynes smashed into when leaving the Ancient Oak pub car park.
Jeynes appeared at Preston Crown Court on Wednesday, September 9, where he was sentenced to three years and five months in prison.
He was banned from driving for five and a half years and must take an extended test to reclaim his licence following his disqualification.

Garage now closed
With Jeynes now behind bars, his garage Ashton Autos on Lane Ends Trading Estate, off Blackpool Road, has permanently closed.
The MOT test centre shut following Jeynes’ sentencing last week and a notice on the shutters states, “Ashton Autos has gone out of business. Thank you for your support over the years”.
Jeynes had worked at the garage since 2009, and in 2018, he reportedly sold his home to buy the business from his boss.
Some vehicles belonging to customers remained on site this week and anyone affected was asked to contact [email protected] with their name, telephone number and registration plate.
