Lancashire Police said their Tact Ops team was patrolling the M61 near Chorley when they signalled for the driver to pull over onto the hard shoulder.
Officers did not say why the car was asked to stop, but officers said the driver "refused" and continued motoring along a deserted M61.

Hide AdA police chase ensued with officers driving a BMW X5 SUV saying they were unable to catch up with the Citroen C2 as it sped along the motorway towards Greater Manchester.
The police helicopter was mobilised to track the wanted Citroen as it continued to evade Lancashire Police, with GMP patrols put on alert as it crossed the county border into Greater Manchester.
It was eventually forced to a stop by a police stinger as the French "supermini" left the M60 in Bury.
The driver was arrested and tested positive for cannabis and cocaine. Police checks also found that he was disqualified from driving.
