Police close investigation into rape report at Preston bus station as officers say ‘no crime was committed’

Police investigating the reported rape of a woman near Preston bus station say they now believe no such crime occurred.

Police were called to reports a woman in her 20s had been raped in Tithebarn Street at around 12.50am on Tuesday morning (July 12).

A grass verge located directly outside the bus station was cordoned off.

Police patrols were stepped up in the area as a precaution, with police saying at the time that the report was being treated as an isolated incident.

Today (July 13), a Lancashire police spokesman said: “We were called to Tithebarn Street, Preston in the early hours of July 12th following a report a woman in her 20s had been raped. We launched an investigation but after carrying out a number of enquiries we are now satisfied that no criminal offences have been committed.”
