Man found dead in Lancashire woodland identified as family comes forward

A man whose body was found in a Lancashire woodland has been identified by police.

Yesterday (Tuesday, July 19), police issued an appeal to establish the identity of the man after his body was discovered in woodland at Tawd Valley Park in Skelmersdale on Monday.

The man, who was said to be aged between 55 and 65, was found wearing a wedding ring, a baseball cap and sunglasses.

His death is not being treated as suspicious but police said they were keen to confirm his identity so officers could inform his next of kin.

This morning (Wednesday, July 20), Skelmersdale Police said the force had been contacted by the man’s family and his identity has been confirmed.

A spokesman said: “Officers have been contacted by a family who believe the man is their loved one. Our thoughts are very much with them at this distressing time.

"The man’s death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for HM Coroner.”
