Man bitten on leg after ‘throwing chair at police dog’ arrested following spate of burglaries in Rawtenstall and Crawshawbooth

A man who was arrested following a spate of burglaries in Lancashire was bitten after “throwing a chair at a police dog”.

There were a number of burglaries in and around Rawtenstall and Crawshawbooth in the early hours of Monday morning (August 8), police said.

Officers also responded to numerous reports of suspicious activity and were out all night searching for suspects.

Police later descended on Prospect Road in Rawtenstall after four men were spotted in the area.

A man from the Manchester area was subsequently detained by the dog unit shortly after 6am.

“Unfortunately, he threw a garden chair at the dog, cutting the dog’s nose,” a spokesman for Lancashire Police said.

“The male later received treatment to his leg for the subsequent bite marks.”

Patrols recovered a £4k mountain bike but asked residents to check their CCTV and doorbell cameras to see if they caught any suspicious activity.
