The return to around the clock response policing comes after a number of years exclusively as a community base for neighbourhood policing following the removal of the response policing function during financial difficulties.

Following a reconfiguration of structures across the force the Constabulary has taken the opportunity to reinvest in policing services in South Ribble and restore the 24/7 emergency response function at Leyland.

Andrew Snowden, Police and Crime Commissioner for Lancashire said: "I'm delighted to see response policing return to South Ribble, with officers based here in Leyland to protect the public across the borough 24/7 when they need them most.

"This positive change, which I fully support, builds on the reopening of Leyland front counter service late last year and sees policing return to the heart of the community that officers work tirelessly to protect. The people of South Ribble, and indeed everyone across Lancashire, can have confidence that Lancashire Constabulary is committed to taking the fight to criminals, getting offenders off our streets and delivering on the priorities in my Police and Crime Plan.

"I continue to work closely with the Chief Constable, holding him to account as I lead the fight against crime here in Lancashire. I want the overwhelming majority of law-abiding citizens to know that I am on your side and will make sure there is no place for criminals to hide.”

As part of the PCC’s priorities and commitment to local communities, the front counter of the station was reopened to the public in October 2021 from 9am to 1pm. These hours will remain from Monday to Friday, closed Saturday and Sunday.

Moving response officers back to Leyland is a positive move and is testament to the investment and commitment the force is making.
