Joel Kashita, 23, of Wordsworth Avenue, Manchester, was spotted by plain clothed police officers on Scawfell Road in Chorley, at around 1.20pm on October 29 last year.

Preston Crown Court heard they had information he may have committed other offences, and chased him on foot over residents’ back gardens.

He was seen to discard various items, including a large knife, and several garden fences were damaged during the pursuit.

Eventually an officer caught up with him and detained him.

After searching him, the immediate area and the surrounding gardens, officers found £905 in bank notes, a phone, a small amount of cannabis, a white substance believed to be class A drugs and a knife.

Further tests confirmed the powder to be 16.29 grams of crack cocaine of 91% purity, which would have had a street value of £1,620 if sold as £10 deals.

Judge David Potter said: “The phone you had dropped was ringing frequently. On analysis it had bulk texts indicating that you were supplying class A drugs.”This was street dealing by you for profit.”

Kashita made no comment on arrest, but later pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply crack cocaine, possession of a blade, and possession of cannabis. A charge of possession of criminal property was ordered to lie on the file.

Imposing an immediate jail term, Judge Potter said his offending was aggravated by his previous convictions, and the offence was committed a short time after he served a community order.
