Police have revealed that a woman at the address also suffered minor injuries in the incident.

According to reports, two offenders are said to have banged at the front door of the address. As the man went to answer the door, a glass pane was broken and a corrosive substance was sprayed through the broken panel.

The man suffered severe burns to his face, arms and back as a result of the attack.

Police are now appealing for information and are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or may have any information to contact officers.

Det Sgt Jerry Sturgess of Chorley CID, said: “We are appealing for information following what is a serious attack on a home in Coppull. The man is still recovering in hospital as a result of his injuries and we need to establish who is responsible.

“We believe this is an isolated incident potentially involving two offenders. I would urge anyone with any information at all to come forward, particularly anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Mavis Drive area in the time leading up to the incident.”
