Community champions tackle flytipping in Preston
In Preston, community champions have been taken matters into their own hands to tackle rubbish and flytipping close to where they live.
Grandfather-of-nine Norman Chapple has cleaned the alley behind his home in Browning Road, Ribbleton, for the last 20 years.

The 90-year-old even has a plaque outside his home, which states the ginnel was awarded Beacon Back Alley status in 2012.
He said: “I go out more or less every day and I do whatever needs doing.

“It’s easier to do it yourself than waiting. We’ve had trouble with alleyways, but we sorted it out by ourselves.”
Norman worked as a window cleaner for 50 years before he retired 20 years ago, when he began his project in the alley behind his home.
His wife Vera, 81, said: “I don’t know why he started, I think he just got fed up with people mucking up the area.
“He’s doing a good job, I think people appreciate it in the long run.”

Elsewhere in Preston, off New Hall Lane, grandfather Kenny Deverson has also taken matters into his own hands to tackle fly-tipping.
He spends his free time cleaning and revamping the alley behind his home, despite working six days a week.
