Brindle school unveils commemorative garden as "permanent reminder of our connection to our beloved Parish"
This year the historic Parish merged with St Bede’s, Clayton Green.
A commemorative garden has been created at a Chorley primary school to mark the 250th anniversary of the parish.
Staff, children and volunteers at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Brindle have created the area which features a mosaic designed and crafted by artist P. Vernazza, and a range of plants.
The Parish of St Joseph’s was first established in 1776 and is one of Lancashire’s oldest continuous Catholic missions, established during a time when practising the Catholic faith was illegal and dangerous. Its story reflects the resilience of local Catholics and the long Benedictine tradition that shaped the area. This year is also significant as the Parish merged with St Bede’s, Clayton Green, in March.

On Friday, July 17, the garden was officially opened, with parishioners invited to attend Mass, place a prayer pebble in the garden, and witness the burial of a time capsule.
Head teacher Sophie Bridge said: “The capsule will be opened on October 23, 2075, the school’s 100th birthday, as a celebration of our shared history, faith and community. We would like to share our gratitude to all that was involved with this project and we hope it will serve as a permanent reminder of our connection to our beloved Parish.”
