Brindle Band to take national stage at National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain - and you can help

The band is looking for funding help as it prepares for a prestigious performance at a national final.

A Lancashire brass band has made it through to the national finals of a prestigious competition.

Brindle Band, which rehearses in Walton-le-Dale, has qualified for the Fourth Section National Finals of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain, taking place at York Barbican on September 19–20, the first time the event has been held in the city.

The band secured second place at the North West Area contest, held at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool on March 1, earning one of only two qualifying spots from the whole North West region. Leaders say the success it testament to culmination of months of rehearsal, and for many of their players it will be their first time performing on a national stage.

At York, the band will be performing "Heroes of the North" by Peter Graham, a 10-minute set of character variations commissioned to mark the history of brass banding in Norway. A spokesman said: “It’s a considerably tougher technical and musical challenge than the piece we played to qualify. We'll be up against more than 70 other bands from across the UK who've earned their place through their own regional contests, all converging on York Barbican for the first time.”

JustGiving

The cost of getting a full amateur band to a national final isn't cheap, with coach hire, overnight accommodation for the weekend, instrument repairs, and sheet music all adding up. In order to help cover the costs, a JustGiving page looking for £2,000 donations has been set up: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/brindlebrass-band-2

It says: “The band brings people together, provides opportunities for musicians of all ages, and keeps a rich musical tradition alive. From local events to competitions, their dedication and passion make a real difference, but like many community organisations, we rely heavily on fundraising to continue.

“By supporting this cause, you’re helping ensure the band can keep performing, inspiring others, and representing our community with pride. Thank you for your support.”
