Timmy the cat was found with a broken pelvis and internal injuries after being hit by a vehicle in the West End of Morecambe. His owners are now facing thousands in vet bills.

A Lancashire family is facing an agonising wait and mounting vet bills after their beloved cat, Timmy, was critically injured in a suspected hit and run incident.

Timmy was last seen on Wednesday, October 29, in the West End of Morecambe before returning home on Halloween with what vets believe were 'horrific' injuries sustained after being struck by a vehicle.

Owner Helen Mather described the devastating discovery: “He made his way home with a completely broken pelvis and a bladder so badly affected that it was close to bursting. He has also potentially suffered nerve and kidney damage.”

The family is heartbroken by the incident, particularly the thought that the driver may have been aware they hit Timmy and still drove away. “My children are absolutely heartbroken that he’s not home with us and our family is beyond upset that someone could hit him and drive away,” Helen added.

She highlighted concerns about speeding in her area: “The vet said it was high speed or fully run over the top of so they must have known they had hit him surely. On my street cars are known to drive fast so people need to be aware of the consequences and the heartbreak it can leave families in.”

Timmy is currently receiving specialist care at Kentdale Referrals. Despite the severity of his injuries, he is showing incredible resilience. “He’s eating, walking and showing everyone just how much of a little fighter he is,” Helen said.

Vets are cautiously optimistic about Timmy's chances of recovery, provided he receives the necessary treatment, which may include major surgery to repair his pelvis.

However, the cost of his care has already run into thousands of pounds, covering emergency treatment, catheterisation, blood tests, X-rays, and overnight stays. The ongoing specialist care and potential surgery mean the bills are continuing to rise, creating significant financial pressure for the family.

“He is adored by our whole family and we desperately want to give him every chance of coming home,” Helen explained.

Recognising the current economic climate, the family has launched a fundraiser, appealing for any support. “We completely understand that times are difficult for everyone, but if anybody is able to donate even the smallest amount, it would mean the absolute world to us and help ease some of the financial pressure on the family during this incredibly upsetting time.”
