A new dog walking field could soon be opening in Penwortham - here's where
The site is in Green Belt.
Plans have been revealed for a new dog walking field in Penwortham.
William Swires has applied for permission to use land off Howick Cross Lane as Zoomies at Howick Dog Park.
The one-acre site is currently used for horse grazing, and to change the use to a dog exercise facility would require the erection of a 1.8m high timber fence with mesh around the perimetre, as well as the extension of the existing hard standing area so that two cars can park.
The site would be accessed through an existing vehicular access point off the private lane, leading off Howick Cross Lane.

Number of dogs and opening hours
A statement submitted to South Ribble Borough Council (SRBC) said that a maximum of six dogs will be allowed in the field at any one time for a prebooked 50 minute session. It says: “Bookings will be for private use only to avoid groups of unfamiliar dogs being on site at the same time.”
The proposed facility would open seven days per week from 7am-7pm Monday to Friday, 8am-5pm on Saturday and 10am-5pm on Sunday.
A dog waste bin and a waste bin for normal and recyclable waste will be provided along with a water container (carried on and off the site each day).
The planning statement acknowledges the site is classified as Green Belt, but argues that it would not impact on the openness of the Green Belt, and that therefore, the material change of use should not be considered as inappropriate.
A decision on the application will be made in coming weeks by SRBC.
