Apartments and holiday lets plan for former pub site in Chipping
A well-known restaurant and public house could be turned into apartments and holiday lets, if plans are given the green light.
The Dog and Partridge in Hesketh Lane, Chipping, closed at the end of March after 58 years being run by the Barr family.
In an application to Ribble Valley Council, GA Associates on behalf of Peter Barr, said the business was “no longer viable and following a lengthy marketing process no purposeful interest has been forthcoming for the site in its current form.”
Now the family want to convert the restaurant and grounds into 12 one and two-bed apartments and four holiday lets.
The aim is to retain the character of the main stone building for the residential development and build four units in the grounds, modelled on a traditional rural conversion.
The application states the holiday lets would be “the most tangible economic benefit associated with this proposal” with forecasts that the four units would contribute more than £70,518 per year to the local economy.
The application also states the apartments would fulfil a local need for smaller, more affordable housing and that car usage would be comparable to when the site was used as a pub and restaurant.
A final decision will be made in coming weeks by members of Ribble Valley Council’s planning committee.
