We asked readers to give us their opinion on where is the best place to live in and around Preston, South Ribble and Chorley, and hundreds of people responded – with the same places being named time after time.
What do the experts say?
In 2017, South Ribble was officially named as the best place to live in the country by Channel 4, based on an analysis of data including health, average house prices, job opportunities and road links. Researchers also took into account the the proportion of people aged 20- 29 in the area, income and house price to salary ratio.
Last year Great Eccleston was named as Lancashire’s Poshest Village by the Telegraph, the so-called 'posh appeal' determined by factors including high house prices, connectivity, the best lifestyle amenities, and chocolate-box appeal.

9. Bamber Bridge
Bamber Bridge benefits from a lively town centre, proximity to the motorway network, several schools, has a leisure centre, Withy Grove Park, 4G football pitches, and is close to Cuerden Valley Park. It's characterised by Victorian terraced homes, but several new build developments have sprung up on the outskirts and in place of mill sites. 10. Fulwood
Fulwood expanded rapidly last century and has been popular with housing and business developers since, due to its close links to the M6 and M55 motorways. It's also home to the Royal Preston Hospital, pubs and restaurants, an array of good schools, a golf course, supermarkets, large employment areas and Fulwood Barracks.
