Preston's College is to open earlier than planned after announcing its sudden closure as a precaution against the coronavirus Covid-19 outbreak.

Officials at the college in St Vincent's Road, Fulwood said in a statement on Thursday afternoon that it would be shut to staff and students from the following day until at least Wednesday, March 18

The closure was to allow for a deep clean of the campus after a learner who had returned from country rated 'category 2' on the Covid-19 risk scale was said to have subsequently become unwell.

But the college has now said it will re-open to staff on Monday (March 16) and to students the following day.

An updated statement on the college websitre said: "Further to the consultation with the deep cleaning company, we have been advised that the college will be in a position to re-open to staff on Monday, March 16.

"Learners‘ return date has now been brought forward to Tuesday, March 17, allowing time for effective communication with wider support agencies, travel companies and other stakeholders."
