Gisburne Park Hospital to close next month
Private East Lancashire hospital Gisburne Park is to close in April under plans announced by BMI Healthcare.
The 24-bed facility with all rooms offering the privacy and comfort of en-suite facilities, satellite TV and a telephone, mainly offered minor day case procedures to local patients.
It employs 35 members of staff (28 full time equivalent) and it was been revealed that the vast majority of staff will transfer to Beardwood Hospital in Blackburn. It is believed a significant number already worked across Gisburne Park and the Beardwood Hospital.
Speaking about the closure plans, a spokesman for BMI Healthcare said: “Following a careful review of the hospital’s activity and changing local needs, we believe that the most appropriate option for staff and patients is to cease services at the hospital. Gisburne Park will be closed in April. The hospital has averaged between 20 to 40 day case patients per week. All these patients can be accommodated at BMI Beardwood Hospital under the same consultants.
"The services are moving to the BMI Beardwood Hospital in Blackburn, where patients have fast access to appointments, and we have a major investment programme. We also have hospitals in Lancaster and Bolton.”
A message to patients on the hospital website reads as follows: "BMI Gisburne Park Hospital is closing. Patients with appointments will be contacted with details of arrangements for alternative appointments, or they can leave a message on our patient contact line 0800 096 2254.
"We thank our patients who have chosen Gisburne Park Hospital, and hope that our sister hospitals, The Beardwood Hospital in Blackburn and The Lancaster Hospital in Lancaster will be able to serve you in the future."
