Entire Preston primary school forced to temporarily close after positive coronavirus test

An entire primary school in Preston has temporarily closed due to coronavirus.

Pupils in all year groups at Queen's Drive Primary School in Fulwood have been sent home and advised to self-isolate for 14 days due to coronavirus.

The exact number of cases has reportedly not been confirmed because of patient confidentiality.

The school said it took swift action after being informed of the positive test today (September 21), and followed advice from health and education officials to keep pupils and staff safe.

It is believed to be one of the first schools in Lancashire to completely shut due to the virus, but dozens of schools across Lancashire have been affected by Covid-19 since the start of term.

The school, which has been rated 'outstanding' by Ofsted, will reopen again to all students on Tuesday, October 6.

Pupils in England returned to schools in September for the new term following six months of closure due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Parents were urged to ensure all children attended when the new term started, with Education Secretary Gavin Williamson warning they risked a "huge dent in their future life chances" if they continued to stay at home.
