Between Monday, July 21 and Sunday, July 27, Preston College is celebrating Adult Student Week in which it recognizies the achievements of their adult learners and showcases the diverse range of courses offered.

Last year, 5,780 adults from across Lancashire, walked through its doors with one goal in mind: to create a better future.

Preston College says it is proud to be the place where transformation begins with an extensive and inclusive adult education offer.

At the heart of the College’s mission, “to inspire, educate and support our diverse community to reach its potential”, with a curriculum that reflects the real needs of students and the local economy.

Adult students come from all walks of life, whether retraining for a new career, building confidence, or unlocking a lifelong passion, what unites them is ambition - and their courage to take the first step.

When Belal arrived in the UK four years ago as an asylum seeker, he couldn’t speak English.

Today, he’s a recognised leader in the community, and a shining example of what education can achieve.

Starting with English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes at Preston College, Belal worked tirelessly to improve his language skills. He then progressed onto a Digital Skills course, building the foundation for a future career in tech. Alongside his academic success, Belal became a beacon of support for other learners navigating similar challenges.

His inspiring journey led to a standout moment: being named Premier League Community Captain for Preston North End Football Club.

“Belal refuses to let his circumstances define him. He’s not only grown in confidence—he’s lifting others up along the way” says his ESOL tutor

Jennifer’s journey with Preston College is nothing short of inspiring.

A mum of three and a business owner, Jennifer returned to education to pursue her passion for hairdressing.

Despite her busy life, she stayed 100% commitment to her studies, completing her NVQ Level 2 in Hairdressing, while also excelling in the evening Barbering course.

Her talents were recognised far beyond the classroom, earning her an Excellence Award at the Lancashire Skills Competition and a Highly Commended award at the recent Preston College Student Awards.

Her tutors told us: “Jennifer lights up the classroom with her positivity, energy and ambition. She’s proof that it’s never too late to chase your goals.”
